The Confucius Institute at Troy University hosted a Chinese New Year Celebration at Kelly Springs Elementary School in Dothan.

The celebration attended by more than 400 parents and students was a wild success.

The celebration included a history of Chinese New Year origins and hand-on cultural activities including Chinese paper-cutting, calligraphy, Peking opera facial masks drawing and chopstick games.

The event concluded with “Happy New Year” being sang by the children from Ms. Forehand’s class, and CIT volunteers performing Taichi Fan, a traditional Chinese fan dance, and calligraphy.

This combined with Chinese bamboo flute, cucurbit flute performance and Mongolian dance thrilled the whole audience and pushed the event to a new highlight and left a firm foundation of Chinese culture on Kelly Springs Elementary school.
